Schmidt said within hours, a suspect was taken into custody.

TOWN OF LEBANON (WKOW) – Dodge County Sheriff’s officials have identified a male homicide victim whose body was discovered on Halloween.

But Sheriff Dale Schmidt Friday declined to release his name,  citing a continuing investigation and efforts to notify next of kin.

Schmidt said someone called either 911 or a non-emergency law enforcement line Wednesday to report that there was a body at N901 Redwing Road in the Town of Lebanon.

Records show the home has been owned by a 49-year old Marine Corps veteran since 2010, but Schmidt declined comment on how the homicide victim was connected to the property, if at all.

Schmidt said within hours of law enforcement responding to the report of the body, a suspect was taken into custody. He says the suspect is in the Dodge County jail on a matter unrelated to the homicide.

The sheriff also declined to say whether the suspect knew the victim or whether the killing was a stranger attack.

Schmidt says he’s confident there’s no lingering threat to the area.  “The community is safe…they can feel secure in their homes,”  Schmidt says.

Authorities say an autopsy was performed on the body Friday, but no findings have been released.

The crime scene is in a secluded area near Sugar Island, an unincorporated community in the Town of Lebanon in Dodge County,
