MADISON (WKOW) — People around the world and in southern Wisconsin were uniting in the fight against HIV and AIDS on Saturday. Every year, December 1st is World AIDS Day.
People also used the day to show support for others living with HIV or AIDS, as well as remember those who have died.
There was an event at Sankofa Behavioral and Community Health in Monona. Staff members were encouraging members of the community to take a free HIV test regardless of their circumstance.
“You think you’re with someone for a long time and you don’t need to get that testing but it’s always good to make yourself aware of what’s going on with your body,” said Sankofa Community Outreach Coordinator Paris Smith.
This was the first time Sankofa hosted this event. They hope to do it again in 2019.
