MADISON (WKOW) — The American Family Insurance Championship announced Monday it raised $2,067,000 for charity in its third year.

Officials say that’s an increase of $442,000 from 2017.

Half of the proceeds will be distributed to the American Family Children’s Hospital in Madison. 80 other charities will share the remaining $1 million.

The grand total of the 2018 championship was announced at American Family Insurance corporate headquarters. The event featured championship host/player Steve Stricker and American Family Insurance Chair and CEO Jack Salzwedel.

“It’s just a special day for us to be able to do that,” said Stricker. “To do that through the game of golf, to make an impact in our community is very special for us.”

The third annual American Family Insurance Championship was held in June at University Ridge golf course in Madison. Next year’s event will be held June 15-23, 2019.
