DANE COUNTY (WKOW) — The Dane County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents that telephone scams continue to victimize people in the county.

Sheriff’s officials say at 8:30 Thursday morning, a Sheriff’s deputy responded to a home in the town of Springfield where someone had sent 500 dollars in Google gift cars to a telephone scammer claiming to be with the Sheriff’s Office.

Detectives with the Sheriff’s Office called the number and got a voicemail recording. They say the recording sound very officials and most people would assume they are actually calling the Dane County Sheriff’s Office. But they say it’s all part of the elaborate scam.

The Sheriff’s Office is reminding people that they will never request any type of payment for things like warrants or missed jury duty over the telephone.

They ask anyone who has been a recent victim of this scam to please report it to their local law enforcement.
