MADISON (WKOW) — A major solar panel project in Madison is now soaking up the sun.
The state’s largest solar panel rooftop installation was turned on Wednesday at the Madison College campus. The project was completed thanks to a $500,000 grant from Madison Gas and Electric.
It will offset non-renewable energy resources and save taxpayers about $200,000 each year.
“The solar installation that we will bring online today is an essential part of Madison’s Solar road map, a long range plan to not only harness the power of the sun to reduce our carbon footprint,” said Dr. Jack Daniels, Madison College President. “It also capitalized on the power of partnerships.”
The solar panels will also serve as a teaching resource for various school programs like architecture, electrical engineering and construction.
