MADISON (WKOW) – Local fire departments have issued a few safety tips regarding the recent snowfall.

The City of Beloit Fire Department shared a friendly reminder Saturday morning, urging residents to clear the area around fire hydrants and remove any ice or snow from them.

A three foot radius should be cleared around the hydrant, with a clear path from the fire hydrant to the street according to The Whitewater Fire Department and the Town of Beloit Fire Department.

Every second counts if they are needed in an emergency, Whitewater Fire Department says in a Facebook post.

The City of Fort Atkinson Fire Department is also asking residents to make sure that drifting snow is not blocking any furnaces, water heaters or dryer vents to keep your home safe.
