MADISON (WKOW) — The Madison Opera has a new production opening this weekend.
A Little Night Music opens on Friday, Feb. 8 at 8 p.m at the Overture Center in Madison. The operetta will have a matinee on Sunday, Feb. 10 at 2:30 p.m.
On Monday, Madison Opera Director Kathryn Smith joined Wake Up Wisconsin to talk more about the show and its storyline.
Smith says it tells a “sophisticated story of love across generations, as a number of people struggle with love, and how to handle their very human reactions to each other. Spiced with brilliant wit and rueful self-awareness, it is a “grown-up operetta” that ends happily.”
A Little Night Music premiered on Broadway in 1974. The music and lyrics are by Stephen Sondheim; the book is by Hugh Wheeler.
If you are interested in seeing the production, tickets are on sale now. Visit the Madison Opera website for more information.
