MADISON (WKOW) — A Lyft driver was arrested early Sunday for allegedly sexually assaulting a woman whom he had just given a ride.
Hassen Ahmed, 28, of Madison, gave a ride to a woman through the popular ride sharing app Lyft early Sunday morning, according to a Madison police incident report.
After taking the woman to her Langdon Street apartment, Ahmed claimed he needed to use the bathroom and entered the woman’s unit, police said.
After the assault, the woman called the Madison Police Department just before 2 a.m. “and provided information that led to the suspect being located and arrested after a traffic stop,” the release said.
Ahmed faces two charges of second-degree sexual assault, according to police.
27 News requested information about Ahmed’s history with Lyft from the ride share company.
Lyft sent the following response: “The allegations described are deeply disturbing. The safety of the Lyft community is our number one priority and we have absolutely no tolerance for this behavior on the platform. Upon learning of the incident, we immediately deactivated the driver and reached out to the passenger to offer our support. We stand ready to assist law enforcement with their investigation.”
It added drivers submit to third-party background checks. Lyft says Ahmed has been deactivated as a driver.
