UPDATE (WKOW) — Numerous crashes and slide-offs have been reported as freezing rain continues to blanket southern Wisconsin.

A Dane County official reported several crashes and many slide-offs. Semis and even dump trucks were getting stuck due to the poor conditions. The official also said cities were focusing on incidents that either blocked roadways or where injuries were reported.

The Rock County Sheriff’s office said it had responded to 36 runoffs, 14 traffic accidents, an additional five accidents with injuries and one stuck semi.

“Green County Highway and Township personnel have been hard at work since the early morning hours spreading salt in an attempt to keep roads safe and passable,” Green County Sheriff Jeff Skatrud said in a statement. “There have been dozens of slide-offs as well as vehicles stuck in the traveled portions of the roadways until salt crews have arrived to treat the pavement.”

Conditions were reportedly better north of Madison. Officials in Richland, Sauk and Columbia Counties said roads were generally slick in spots but few incidents had been reported.  None involved injuries.
