Madison behind in responding to unshoveled sidewalk complaints

MADISON (WKOW) — Because of the recent snow and cold, the city of Madison currently has a significant backlog of complaints waiting for inspection, according to Kyle Bunnow of the Madison Building Inspection Division.

The city is asking citizens to continue clearing ice from sidewalks as they are able and to apply sand where ice as bonded to the concrete.

Temperatures are currently at a level where salt can be very effective in loosening the ice from the concrete and homeowners should consider this if they are able.

People with concerns about sidewalks are asked to contact the city after the upcoming storm is over and deadline for removal has passed.

The recent and sustained weather conditions have not allowed the city to take consistent enforcement action, Bunnow said.
