UPDATE: Suspect in SWAT standoff chokes woman, arms himself with knife

UPDATE (WKOW) — A 45-year-old Madison man was taken into custody and brought to the hospital with self-inflicted cuts after an hours-long standoff with officers Wednesday morning, according to the Madison Police Department.

The suspect broke into an apartment building after causing a disturbance at the intersection of Schroeder Road and Struck Street at about 11:10 p.m. Tuesday. He made his way into a unit where a 38-year-old woman was sleeping. She was able to fight off the man after being choked. The man then grabbed a kitchen knife. The victim barricaded herself in a bathroom.

The MPD SWAT team and negotiators were able to peacefully resolve the issue. The suspect was taken into custody at about 3:20 a.m.


UPDATE (WKOW) — A man is now in custody after an hours-long standoff at a senior living apartment in Madison early Wednesday, according to the Madison Police Department.

No one was hurt in the incident at Prairie Park Senior Apartments.


MADISON (WKOW) —  The Madison Police Department SWAT team is surrounding a senior living apartment after officials say a suspect forced entry into the residence and could be holding someone against their will.

Officers were called to the intersection of Schroeder Road and Struck Street at about 11:10 p.m. Tuesday for a man causing a disturbance. When they arrived, the suspect went inside an “occupied dwelling and assaulted the resident.”

At 3 a.m. the suspect was still inside the residence and authorities think he could have a weapon.

The investigation is ongoing.
