MADISON (WKOW) — A new piece of art is now on display in front of Library Mall at the end of state street.
The sculpture made by artists David Dahlquist and Matt Neibuhr of Des Moines, Iowa is made out of very thin laser-cut stainless steel plates and stone. Dahlquist has ties to UW-Madison. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in art from the university in 1980.
His son is a graduate of the university and his daughter is currently a junior.
“The pattern in fact in the steel is inspired by water,” said Dahlquist. “We went to the top of the humanities building and on a busy day, if you can imagine all of the students that are walking through this space they part at an island and then they come back together, there’s this sense of turbulence that is created and so that is part of the concept of it.”
The title of the project is called “Both/And – Tolerance/Innovation”.
