COLUMBIA COUNTY (WKOW) — The Columbia County sheriff has identified a Mukwonago man as the victim in a multi-car crash Tuesday on U.S. Highway 151.
David P. Bickel, 38, died in the crash, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office.
The crash occurred on US 151 northbound in Columbus Township.
Investigators say a white 2017 Freightliner truck was northbound on US 151 when it failed to decelerate as it approached slower moving traffic in a construction zone.
Inattentive driving and speed entering the construction zone appear to have been factors, according to a news release.
The Freightliner collided with a red 2005 Honda minivan driven by a man who was uninjured and was wearing his safety belt. Two men in the Freightliner had minor injuries and were each wearing their safety belts.
The Freightliner then struck a white 2016 Ford F250 that was occupied by three adult male subjects, killing one of them.
The driver and a passenger in the Ford F250 were extricated by Columbus Fire Department and were transported by UW Med flight to UW hospital. The second passenger in the Ford F250 was pronounced dead at the scene.
Safety belt use by the occupants of the Ford F250 is unknown.
The Freightliner pushed the Ford F250 into a white 2016 Ford Fusion driven by a woman who was wearing her safety belt and was transported by EMS for injuries.
The Freightliner and Ford F250 continued and struck a silver 2007 Honda Odyssey occupied by two men. The occupants of the Honda Odyssey were wearing the safety belts and were transported by EMS for their injuries.
The Freightliner and Ford F250 continued and struck a grey 2013 Chevrolet Traverse. The Chevrolet was occupied by one woman who was wearing her safety belt and claimed no injury.
