Championship Saturday for WIAA State softball

The WIAA softball season ends today with Championship Saturday at Goodman Diamonds on the campus of the UW in Madison. Five divisions, with five state champions being crowned.

Division 5:

#2 Belmont 7, #1 Blair-Taylor 1 Final

The Belmont Braves won their second title in softball in school history with a 7-1 win against Blair-Taylor.

“You could just feel the confidence in our kids. We went home and sat their for six hours and watched the game on Wednesday, went home and had a practice, and had one of the best practices we’ve had all year. It’s because of the confidence,” said Braves head coach Jeff Hodgson.

Division 4:

#1 Horicon 13, #2 Mishicot 4 Final

Horicon repeated as Division 4 champions with a 13-4 win against Mishicot

Division 3:

#1 Poynette 4, #2 Campbellsport 0 Final

The Poynette Pumas defended their Division 3 title with a 4-0 win over Campbellsport to win the program’s fifth softball title in school history. Poynette completed their season 30-0.

Poynette junior pitcher Casey Fountain said, “It’s so exciting. This was our goal all season. The Poynette Pumas have never won a state championship in a row. This is what we were looking for and we made it.”

Division 2:

#2 Seymour 9, #1 Monroe 1 Final

Seymour scored 9 runs in the sixth inning on their way to a Division 2 title. This was Seymour’s first appearance in the State tournament in program history.

Division 1:

#1 Oshkosh North 4, #2 Sun Prairie 2 Final/9 Innings

Oshkosh North won their first State softball title in program history with a 4-2 win over defending champion Sun Prairie in nine innings. Oshkosh North ends their season undefeated at 31-0. Sun Prairie ends 27-4 overall.
