FORT ATKINSON (WKOW) — Fort Atkinson Police say a 17-year-old wanted for crimes in multiple cities is in custody after a short police chase on the Rock River.

Jean McDermott’s work on Friday was interrupted by what was happening outside. Fort Atkinson’s Police Chief says the man from Milwaukee was spotted by an officer. Following a brief chase in town, the man jumped into the Rock River to try to escape. Officers got in a boat and quickly arrested him as you can see in video shared to 27 News.

“He went down this way and I could see him through this section here,” said McDermott. “It`s not a river I would mess with.”

Police Chief Adrian Bump tells 27 News that the warrant in Fort Atkinson was for operating a vehicle without the owner’s consent. There was also a warrant out for the suspect in Milwaukee.
