MADISON (WKOW) — A group of Veterans is getting a once in a lifetime chance to fly in a piece of military history.
The World War II, Korean War and Vietnam War Veterans from local senior homes got the chance to ride in a 1940s Boeing Stearm, a bi-plane used to train military aviators. It’s unique because it’s an open cockpit.
Video from inside the cockpit shows Jim Conway, a vietnam vet who served in the Army. The Veteran Dream Flight is made possible by the Ageless Aviation Dreams program.
“I I love open cockpit, it’s loud and you can see everything and your below 3,000 feet it’s great,” said Conway.
The stop at the Dane County Regional Airport was part of an 8-city Dream Flight tour in Wisconsin. The Stearman bi-plane was purchased and restored by the Ageless Aviation Dream Foundation.
