POYNETTE (WKOW) – A volunteer firefighter with the Poynette Dekorra Fire Department has been placed on administrative leave after his arrest on suspicion of possessing child pornography.

Madison Police officials say 25-year old Tyler G. Clark was arrested Thursday as a department SWAT team carried out a search warrant at Clark’s apartment in the 3200 block of Stevens Street.  Court records state computer equipment and other electronics were seized.

An affidavit to support the court-approved search states a cyber tip from a national child advocacy group linked child pornography to Clark’s social media signatures.

The affidavit states child pornography downloads were documented on several dates in 2018 and 2019.

Court records show “…11 suspected child pornography images…” were verified by investigators in Clark’s case.

Poynette Dekorra Fire Department Chief James Tomlinson says Clark has been a firefighter for the department since 2015.

“Exceptional young man,”  Tomlinson says of Clark.  “I could count on him in fire responses.”

Tomlinson says the Poynette factory where Clark works participates in a program that allows employees to leave the work place to respond to calls as volunteer firefighters.

Tomlinson says there are no demerits connected to Clark’s work with the fire department.

“It’s surprising,”  Tomlinson says of Clark’s arrest.  He says Clark will remain on leave as the law enforcement matter involving him remains pending.

One of Clark’s family members declined comment on Clark’s arrest to 27 News Friday.

“This is an open investigation and more charges could be forthcoming,”  Madison Police Officer Lorie Anderson says.

Clark remains in the Dane County jail.  It’s possible he’ll appear in Dane County court Monday.
