MADISON (WKOW) — Music will fill the night during Opera in the Park.
The annual event is happening Saturday, July 20 at Garner Park. The performance starts at 8 p.m. and it is free.
Thursday on Wake Up Wisconsin, the Madison Opera General Director Kathryn Smith stopped by to give us a preview of the summer staple.
She said the concert will be conducted by John DeMain and it will star sopranos Jeni Houser and Michelle Johnson, tenor David Blalock; baritone Ben Edquist; the Madison Opera Chorus; and the Madison Symphony Orchestra.
The performance will feature music from Madison’s upcoming 2019/20 season of La Traviata, Fellow Travelers, and Orpheus in the Underworld, as well as several other operas and musicals.
Garner Park opens at 7 a.m. on the 20th. Concert-goers are welcome to set out blankets and chairs ahead of time and bring food and beverages.
27 News is a proud sponsor. George Smith will co-host the event.
