MADISON (WKOW) — If you live in Madison and still have sandbags from flooding last Summer, you can now put them out for pickup.
Collection crews will be going around picking up sandbags from homes in the flood zone areas. The sections of the city hit hardest by the flooding, including the Isthmus.
If you have sandbags and don’t live in a flood zone, you have to submit a request for collection. The sand is then reused by the city for other purposes.
“What happens is the sandbags after we collect them we shred them all to get all of the sand out of the bags,” said Bryan Johnson, City of Madison Streets Division. “Then city engineering is able to use that sand for other road construction projects or film material, which is nice.”
