Iowa Co. Judge issues bench warrant after defendant in homicide case fails to appear

IOWA CO. (WKOW) — An Iowa County judge issued a bench warrant on Friday for the man accused in a homicide case from March of 2018 in Ridgeway.

Austin Valdez was scheduled to appear on Friday morning for a motion hearing, but wasn’t present due what was listed as a transportation issue, according to online court records.

Prosecutors requested a bench warrant, but Valdez’s attorney objected. However Judge William Sharp granted the request.

There is now a status conference scheduled for Sept. 17 at 3 p.m.

Valdez is charged with First-Degree Reckless Homicide in connection to the death of Robin Reeson. Authorities say it was part of a domestic incident.

Reeson was married to Valdez’s mother. Back in February the judge in the first trial declared a mistrial after the jurors could not come to a unanimous decision.

A re-trial is scheduled to begin on December 16.
