Sheriff’s deputy freed from rollover crash, taken to hospital

UPDATE (WKOW) — The Wisconsin State Patrol released its initial finding from its investigation of a rollover crash involving a Dane County sheriff’s deputy Friday evening in the town of Springfield.

The deputy was traveling north on U.S. Highway 12 in her squad vehicle with her lights and siren on around 5 p.m. When she entered the highway’s intersection with County Y, a vehicle traveling the opposite direction crashed into her vehicle, causing her squad to roll onto its roof, the state patrol found.

Both drivers were wearing their seatbelts, and the airbags in both vehicles went off.

The deputy was taken to a Madison hospital with minor injuries.

The Wisconsin State Patrol continues to investigate the crash. State traffic officials say the crash scene was cleared just before 7 p.m.
