Five teen car thieves arrested after stealing puppy in Janesville, police say

JANESVILLE (WKOW) — Five teens were arrested in Janesville Wednesday after driving what police say was a stolen SUV to the Janesville Mall and attempting to steal a puppy.

The incident began Wednesday afternoon when Janesville police responded to 2615 Milton Avenue for a gas drive off.

Officers located the vehicle at 2500 Milton Ave. and watched the unoccupied vehicle until the five teen suspects came out of the Janesville Mall, according to a news release.

The teens had a puppy that police say they had just stolen from Furry Babies behind in the vehicle. They ditched the puppy, then fled from the area on foot in two different directions.

Officers gave chase on foot and were able to apprehend the five juveniles in four locations around the area.

The stolen vehicle was a 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee reported stolen from the town of Middleton on April 22.

There were several items of property found in the vehicle, along with several sets of car keys. Those items are being investigated to determine what other cases they relate to.

All five juveniles have been returned to Dane County and will be going to the juvenile detention center on several charges.
