Photographer, 70, accused of groping woman, 20, during photo shoot

MADISON (WKOW) — A Madison woman said she was groped by a photographer during a photo shoot at his Atwood Avenue studio Friday afternoon.

The 20-year-old works at a restaurant, and told police the photographer, James M. Barnard, 70, was a customer who had offered to have her come to his business for the purpose of building a portfolio.

The woman said beside taking clothed photos of her, the man came on to her and touched her inappropriately, according to a Madison Police Department incident report.

He denied doing anything that was not consensual.

Barnard faces a charge of fourth degree sexual assault.
