Madison K-9 tracks down allegedly intoxicated driver involved in crash

MADISON (WKOW) — Sparks flew off of a truck driving in the wrong lane without a wheel on Madison’s southwest side Monday evening.

Authorities arrested the vehicle’s alleged driver, 51-year-old Dale J. Ring, from Madison, for operating while intoxicated thanks to tracking from K-9 Slim, according to a Madison Police Department incident report.

A man saw the pickup coming right at him as he drove home from the grocery store around 7:30 p.m. The truck was in the wrong lane of Mckee Road near the intersection with Muir Field Road.

The man swerved hard to the left to avoid a head-on crash, but the two collided anyway. The man’s car was heavily damaged, according to police, but he was unhurt. The truck never stopped and continued on, now without a tire, and spitting sparks from the damaged rim.

A witness told police the driver abandoned the truck on Stratton Way and walked off.

K-9 Slim and his partner, MPD Officer Carren Corcoran, tracked down the alleged driver. Police arrested Ring for his third offense of operating while intoxicated.
