(WKOW) — The change in the weather might have you a little congested.

Dr. Karen Reed at UnityPoint Health – Meriter McKee Clinic said, she’s been seeing a lot of colds and coughs in her office lately.

Symptoms for colds and coughs can include anything from a runny nose and sneezing to flem and a sore throat, but Dr. Reed said, you’ll know it’s gotten more serious if your cough is persistent.

To treat your cold and cough, Dr. Reed encouraged getting plenty of rest, drinking plenty of fluids, putting honey in warm water or tea to soothe your cough and/or using an over-the-counter decongestant.

Dr. Reed said it’s time to get medical attention if you have a fever or your symptoms aren’t getting better after three to five days.
