(WKOW) — Open enrollment through the Affordable Care Act is underway November 1.
The deadline to sign up is December 15.
The federal marketplace is for people who would not otherwise have health insurance through work, Medicaid, Medicare or CHIP.
Typically you cannot enroll in health insurance outside of the open enrollment period, unless you qualify for a special enrollment period.
The state office of the Commissioner of Insurance said there will be more choices this year, which is a sign that the market for health insurance sold straight to consumers is stabilizing.
U.S. Census data shows more than 25,000 Dane County residents don’t have health insurance.
“Studies have shown if you have good health care that helps you do overall better in every area of your life,” said Covering Wisconsin’s lead navigator, Colleen Harryman.
