(WKOW) — Tuesday marked day 25 of the government shutdown and the effects of it are hitting close to President Trump.

On Monday, the president treated the Clemson Tigers to dinner, after they won the National Football Championship last week.

The menu included McDonald’s, Wendy’s, Burger King and pizza.

The White House said a lot of its staff has been furloughed because of the government shutdown. That’s why the president decided to pay for the catering himself.

According to Trump, he ordered about 1,000 hamburgers. He said he thought the team would enjoy it because they have some “very large people that like eating.”

The president didn’t say how much the dinner cost him.

This was the team’s second visit to the White House in less than two years.
