MADISON (WKOW) — Gov. Tony Evers has signed an executive order to raise the Rainbow Pride flag over the Wisconsin State Capitol for the first time in state history.

The raising ceremony is set for 1:30 p.m. on Friday, June 7, 2019.

On Monday, Madison Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway along with city and Dane County officials kicked off Madison’s celebration of Pride Month by raising the rainbow flag in front of the city’s Municipal Building Monday afternoon.

In a news release, the mayor said the following:

“The city of Madison has a deep commitment to diversity and inclusion across the board, and one of my top priorities is to make sure everyone’s voices are heard in our decision-making process. That is easier if our team is diverse and inclusive, which is why I am working to make sure that my office, the city workforce, and our city committees represent the full diversity of Madison. Pride Month gives us a great opportunity to celebrate that diversity.”

The Madison Municipal Building will also be lit in rainbow colors during evenings throughout the month of June.
