DANE COUNTY (WKOW) — Three civil lawsuits were filed Thursday in relation to the deadly explosion in Sun Prairie this past July.

According to court records, Abby Barr, the widow of Capt. Cory Barr, filed a wrongful death lawsuit against VC Tech, Bear Communications, USIC Locating Services and WE Energies.

Capt. Barr was a firefighter with the Sun Prairie Volunteer Fire Department who was killed during the explosion July 10.

Two other firefighters, Ryan Welch and Greg Pavlik, have filed personal injury lawsuits against the same companies. Welch and Pavlik were both hurt in the explosion.

27 News has reached out to the plaintiffs’ lawyers, who provided us with the filings. We are waiting to hear back to see if they’ll comment.

A We Energies spokesperson tells 27 News, “We are still reviewing the lawsuit and it’s our practice not to comment on pending litigation.”

USIC says it would also not comment on the situation because of the pending civil action. Representatives from VC Tech and Bear Communications haven’t gotten back to us yet.
