MADISON (WKOW) — A federal lawsuit filed against Dane County District Attorney Ismael Ozanne and his staff has been settled for $350,000.
The lawsuit was filed by Ozanne’s former assistant district attorney, Bob Jambois. Jambois claimed Ozanne forced him to resign after he challenged Ozanne in the August 2016 primary election.
According to court records, the lawsuit was dismissed today because a settlement was reached. Ozanne tells 27 News the settlement was for $350,000. “The lawsuit settlement assumes no wrongdoing. We did not do anything wrong,” Ozanne told 27 News.
Ozanne says they were prepared to try the case, but Jambois reduced his demand by $2.1 million. “That had to be considered. I had to consider the best interests of the community, taxpayers, and weigh going to trial versus what was best for the (district attorney’s) office and the state,” Ozanne says.
Jambois’ lawyer has not returned our phone call for comment yet.
