Madison says ‘bye bye’ Bucky, but not for long

MADISON (WKOW) — There was a wrap-up part for Bucky on Parade after months of seeing them around Dane County. But don’t worry, you’ll see some of them again.

The free public art event featured more than 80 life-size Bucky Badger statues throughout Dane County. Each badger was decorated differently by various artists.

On Saturday, some of those statues that weren’t paid for by sponsors were auctioned off.

The proceeds will go to Garding Against Cancer and local non-profit organizations.

The Greater Madison Visitor’s Bureau said the excitement around Bucky On Parade was more than they ever expected.

“We had more than 2,000 people come into the sports commission offices to turn in their checked-off list of seeing all 85 Buckys. We had people tweeting about it, putting up Instagram posts,” said Rob Gard, with the bureau.

Some of the Bucky statues will still be on display. A number of them will find permanent homes in public places. Those locations will be listed on the Bucky On Parade website.
