MADISON (WKOW) — “Dear Mom and Dad: Cool it.” That’s the headline of a warning letter from the head of the WIAA to parents of high school athletes.
Executive director Dave Anderson says the majority of fans are well behaved, but there are always those who choose to berate referees.
Anderson says that yelling is the primary reason there’s a shortage of officials in the state.
“I think some of the athletic directors would tell you, or conference commissioners who may hire and contract officials would tell you that, ‘You know what, we’re at that, we’re in the eye of crisis.”
Anderson says some athletic events have already been postponed or canceled, because of the shortage.
