MADISON (WKOW) — First United Methodist Church in downtown Madison is opening as a warming center Friday.

It’s specifically for families and single women who may be homeless.

The church says it’s trying to help out the local Salvation Army shelter, which is taxed right now since it’s not turning people away due to the cold.

The church opens at 8 a.m.

It’s serving breakfast at 8:30 a.m. and lunch at noon.

It’s working with the Beacon to shuttle families to and from the Salvation Army shelter.
