MADISON (WKOW) — Parking officials with the City of Madison acknowledge meters and pay stations may not work properly in the extreme cold.

On Wednesday and Thursday only, if equipment malfunctions, you are not required to report the malfunction or pay another way in order to use street parking.  You may park for the max allotted time without paying, according to city officials.

Usually when a meter malfunctions you are required to report it before you can park in the spot for the allotted time without paying.

Officials encourage you to use the city’s mobile parking app instead of attempting the pay stations.

If you get a ticket because of a meter malfunction in the extreme cold, contact the city’s parking office with your name, the citation number, your vehicle license plate number, time and date of citation, meter space number and description of malfunction.
