(WKOW) — The oldest member of the Sun Prairie Volunteer Fire Department is retiring.

Arnie Kleven is 75 and he’s been a firefighter for 46 years.

He got a warm goodbye at Sun Prairie Station 1 Thursday evening.

Kleven started as a volunteer in 1972. He once served as Sun Prairie’s chief and is now finishing up as assistant chief.

He’s also worked in the Town of Burke and Town of Bristol.

“Really appreciative of all the people who supported me over the years. My family. All fellow firefighters in the room that served under me and we worked with other departments,” Kleven said. “It’s quite an honor to bestow on me to have this from the fire department.

Kleven said he always enjoyed helping people in need and serving in the community.
