BELOIT (WKOW) — Police in Beloit are seeing fewer major crimes.

The Beloit Police Department says crimes like robberies, assaults and burglaries dropped nine percent from 2017 to 2018. When you stretch the time from 2016 to 2018, major crimes are down 12 percent.

Police Chief David Zibolski says the decrease shows the city is heading in the right direction.

“Seeing that is exciting to us and I think it shows that working together, it shows that we’ve made some significant progress,” Zibolski told 27 News.

Zibolski says now that officers are working on fewer of these crimes, they’ll be able to dig into cold case homicides and work more on planning for a new police facility.
