TOWN OF BELOIT (WKOW) — Town of Beloit police are investigating after finding a stolen van they believe was used to burglarize a gas station.
The van crashed Tuesday about 4 a.m. into the front of the Marathon Gas Station at 2760 S. Prairie Ave., according to a news release from Police Chief Ronald Northrop.
The van was used as a battering ram so two burglars could get inside the store and steal “an undetermined amount of currency,” Northrop said.
The two criminals are described by police as six feet tall wearing dark clothes and hoods. Police believe a third person was the van’s getaway driver.
“The van was last seen southbound on Prairie Avenue,” the chief said.
Police later found the van on the 2300 block of Tumbleweed Lane and discovered it was stolen from a U-Haul on Atlas Court in Madison.
An investigation into the incident is ongoing. Authorities are encouraging anyone with information to contact Beloit Crime Stoppers or call the non-emergency dispatch at 608 757-2244.
