MADISON (WKOW) — A citation will be issued to the contractor who was working on a Madison apartment complex shortly before it suffered a partial collapse.
Plan Review and Inspection Supervisor Kyle Bunnow with the city of Madison’s Building Inspection Division told 27 News, “A citation is being issued for work having been completed without obtaining the required permit in conjunction with 1202 McKenna Blvd partial building collapse.”
The citation will be issued to Meyer Painting and Drywall. The contractor was hired to do some renovations in the basement of the apartment building. A load-bearing wall was removed, causing the collapse.
City officials said the contractor had not applied for a permit to do the work.
A spokesperson for the apartment’s management company told 27 News a new contractor, Engineered Construction, has taken over repairs on the building.
