Backyard Products to close Janesville operation, layoff all 23 employees

JANESVILLE (WKOW) — Backyard Products, which acquired Janesville’s Swing-N-Slide in 2013, will close its Janesville operation and layoff 23 employees.

According to a notice today from the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development, the closing is permanent and will result in the layoff of all employees at the Janesville facility.

Layoffs will begin Aug. 1, and continue until about Nov. 12, according to the notice.

Swing-N-Slide has it roots in Janesville’s Newco Welding and Engineering when the metal fabrication company branched into swing set kits in 1986 and experienced tremendous growth.

The company eventually became known as Swing-N-Slide and was acquired by several other companies over the years.

Backyard Products acquired Swing-N-Slide in 2013 after entering the residential play set category in 2006.
