Woman beaten in downtown disturbance, police say

MADISON (WKOW) — Madison police are investigating a situation that happened early Sunday morning near UW-Madison’s campus.

According to a release, around 1:15 a.m. there was a disturbance on W Gorham St. near the intersection of N Broom St. Someone called 911, saying they had been shot at.

When officers got there, they found a woman had been beaten.  She was taken to the hospital and is recovering.

Other people involved also reported being hurt, but not seriously.  Investigators say no one seems to have been shot.

Police said a building in the area was hit by a bullet.

Investigators think the fight involved two groups of people who knew each other.
