Horse killed after being hit by 2 vehicles near Verona

TOWN OF VERONA (WKOW) — Authorities say a horse that got loose was hit twice in the middle of Highway PB near Verona Friday night.

Dane County sheriff’s officials say a vehicle was headed south near Wesner Road around 9:45 p.m. when the driver hit the horse. Then, another car headed north hit the same animal. The crash closed Highway PB for about two hours.

Two other horses and a donkey had also gotten loose from their barn but were corralled by someone who passed by and officials who responded to the crash.

Authorities say two people who were in the second car were taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Investigators say they’re not sure how the animals got loose.

A neighbor tells 27 News the horse was buried on Saturday. They say the owners feel like they lost an important member of their family.

One of the drivers who hit the horse said she saw two animals in the ditch, but didn’t see the one in the road until it was too late.
