MADISON (WKOW) — People in Madison had a picnic Sunday afternoon to celebrate the city’s cultural and ethnic diversity.
Open Doors for Refugees held its 4th annual community picnic at Olin Park. The group helps resettle refugees in the Madison area.
Organizers say the potluck picnic helps people learn about other cultures.
“The best part, I think, is just to be able to mix and mingle with people who you might not ordinarily come into contact with in your day-to-day travels. And I think when we do that, we find how much we have in common with each other,” said Susan Kiernan, with Open Doors.
Thursday was World Refugee Day.
