Fitchburg gas leak cuts service to 200

FITCHBURG (WKOW) — A gas line struck in the city of Fitchburg impacted service to about 200 people Tuesday afternoon.

A contractor working along Caddis Bend struck a gas line while digging. which prompted authorities to issue a shelter in place order for the Waterford and Group Health Cooperative clinic, according to Madison Gas and Electric and the city of Fitchburg.

MG&E responded to the leak at 1:50 p.m. and turned off the gas about 45 minutes later.

Fitchburg said approximately 200 people were without gas service.

Service remains cut off to 17 homes and businesses, MG&E said. The utility company said it is waiting for the all clear from Digger’s Hotline to begin work on the struck line.
