MADISON (WKOW) — Owners of a popular deli in Madison are hoping to start rebuilding soon, months after a fire closed them down.

Stalzy’s Deli made an appearance at AtwoodFest on Saturday, to meet with community members and serve up sandwiches.

Stalzy’s has been closed since April, when a fire destroyed the restaurant on Atwood Avenue.

The deli’s owner, Corbin Reynolds, says they’ve been persevering and continuing to work to get open soon.

“We’re kind of at a stalemate for the last month here, just with architectural plans, working with the city to make sure everything’s a go. We feel that we’ve made progress and we hope to get construction crews in there in the next week or two,” Reynolds told 27 News.

Reynolds says he expects Stalzy’s to be back open in October, in time for the 9th annual Oktoberfest hosted at the deli.
