Sun Prairie man faces sixth OWI charge after arrest Sunday evening

SUN PRAIRIE (WKOW) — A Sun Prairie man is facing a sixth offense OWI after a police officer recognized him driving without a valid drivers license Sunday evening.

It began when an officer saw a vehicle driving recklessly about 9:30 p.m. Sunday in the Sun Prairie Walmart parking lot, according to a Sun Prairie police news release.

The officer recognized the driver as Jimmy Chaney.  A records check of Chaney showed Chaney does not hold a valid driver’s license.

The officer attempted to stop Chaney after his vehicle left the parking lot.

While pulling over for the traffic stop, Chaney went into the BP gas station at 1705 W. Main St. where he struck a cement post which is positioned in front of the gas pumps.

No significant damage was done to the post, but there was damage to the vehicle.

Chaney, 38 of Sun Prairie, was then arrested for suspicion of a sixth offense OWI, a felony.
