BEAVER DAM (WKOW) — Cleanup of the damaged Beaver Dam Middle School has grown to be more complex than originally anticipated, according to school officials, however they still hope to open as scheduled Sept. 3.
The school was damaged after a vehicle crashed into it and burst into flames late Wednesday night following a police chase.
Several planned open houses have been rescheduled, however.
Three professional cleanup and restoration teams comprised of more than 80 contracted personnel will continue to work on the clean up efforts caused by Wednesday’s crash and fire.
The gym floor is a total loss and the district is awaiting test results to determine how and when the flooring will be disposed of.
The Middle School open house originally scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 27 has been postponed.
The district hopes that the school will be open by Thursday night, Aug. 29 for an open house for 6th grade; however, district officials cannot guarantee that at this time.
An all-school Open House has been tentatively scheduled for 5:30 p.m.-6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 5.
District officials plan on school starting as scheduled on Tuesday, Sept. 3.
A middle school staff in-service scheduled for next week has been moved to Beaver Dam High School.
The middle school building remains closed to all traffic, including staff. Plans are coming together for physical education classes when the weather does not allow instruction to be outside.
