WINDSOR (WKOW) — There’s a safe, new way for kids to learn the rules of the road without leaving the playground.
Windsor Community Park on Pederson Crossing Boulevard has a paved section where parents can teach their kids how to ride a bike and how to navigate stop signs, crosswalks and roundabouts.
Village clerk Christine Capstran says they were looking for a unique idea for the park and saw something like this in Seattle.
“This seemed to be it,” Capstran told 27 News. “It fits into our community because we have a lot of rural subdivisions, where if parents want to teach their kids how to ride a bike, they don’t have sidewalks to do that on.”
“I think this is an idea that is going to catch on quickly. It’s very popular in Europe, just not something that has been done in the Midwest yet. So we’re hoping we’re going to start a trend,” Capstran said.
The park also has playground areas, basketball and tennis courts, and shelters.
