FITCHBURG (WKOW) — The city of Fitchburg opened the doors of Firehouse 1 on Saturday, to wrap up Fire Prevention Week.

People could see equipment demonstrations and get fire engine rides.

Fire Chief Joe Pulvermacher says it’s a great way to show the community exactly what they do and to emphasize safety.

“We’re to the point now where people are bringing their kids to the fire station who had once received fire truck rides, so the idea is it gives them a little different perspective as far as how the firefighters arrive on scene and their work environment,” Pulvermacher said.

Fire Station 1 is the headquarters for the fire department.

The theme for Fire Prevention Week is to plan and practice your escape.
