MADISON (WKOW) — A group supporting people with disabilities is hoping to make travel a little easier for families.

ARC-Dane County hosted a training session called Wings for All at Dane County Regional Airport on Saturday.

Families could practice arriving at the airport, getting through security and onto a plane.

Advocates hope the test run will make travel less intimidating for someone with intellectual or developmental disabilities.

“Just have a rehearsal experience and really get through that before they go and buy a ticket and plan a trip. They know what to expect. They know what their capabilities are. And that just makes the whole process a lot less scary,” said Sarah Barnes, president of ARC-Dane County.

The practice also gives airport and TSA staff a chance to learn about their interactions with the community.
