WAUNAKEE (WKOW) — People in Waunakee helped pack more than 500,000 meals on Sunday for kids in need.
Volunteers with Waunakee Food for Kidz started at 9 a.m. at the Waunakee High School Fieldhouse.
Last year, they packaged more than 400,000 meals and wanted to set the goal higher this year.
The meals will be sent to 50 local food banks, but some will help kids outside the U.S.
“The other half of the oatmeal has been loaded into a shipping container out in the parking lot here at the Waunakee High School Field House, and [Sunday] that will be on it’s way to an orphanage in Haiti where it’ll help feed the local community. In fact, a number of us are going down in January from Waunakee to actually help distribute the food in Haiti,” said Mick Holm, a volunteer with Food for Kidz.
This is the 14th year for the Waunakee Food for Kidz. More than 1,600 volunteers helped out.
